IRVINE, Calif. - Fresno State sophomore attacker Hailey Andress has been named to the watch list for the 2024 Cutino Award. USA Water Polo, The Olympic Club, and the Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches (ACWPC) have collaborated to create The Peter J. Cutino Award, which recognizes the best player in men's and women's college water polo.
This watch list was created in 2022 in an effort to help promote the college game, awareness of the honor, and the excellent play of athletes around the country. The sophomore Bulldog is the first to be recognized by the organization for Fresno State.
Andress was one of 22 women selected to the watch list for their talent in the pool in 2024. The watch list selections were submitted by varsity water polo coaches across the country.
The native of Glendora, Calif. was an ACWPC All-America honorable mention selection a season ago, while also earning the title of Golden Coast Conference Newcomer of the Year. Andress was a second team All-GCC selection and a member of the GCC All-Freshman team in 2023.
This season, the sophomore leads the team through 18 games in 2024 with 49 goals, and adds 12 assists. She has fired the most shots on the team with 110, shooting at a 45.4 percent clip.
In just two seasons in the pool for the Bulldogs, Andress has already become one of the best that the program has seen on display. With 101 career goals, Andress is fifth in program history for career goals. Last week, she became the fastest player in program history to score 100 goals in their career as she did so in only 45 games.
