'Dogs run-rule Toreros, 10-2

FRESNO, Calif. – The Fresno State softball team finished the weekend with a 10-2 run-rule win over San Diego on Sunday afternoon at Margie Wright Diamond.

The Bulldogs (17-5) logged their ninth game of the season with 10-plus hits, out-hitting the Toreros (6-20) 12-5. Sophomore Natalie Elias tied her season-high with three hits and two RBIs.

Senior right-handed pitcher Taylor Gilmore earned her eighth win of the season. Gilmore pitched 3.0 innings and dished three strikeouts.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Elias extended her hitting streak to 17 consecutive games with a leadoff single. Sophia Medellin drew a walk and Keahilele Mattson was hit by the pitch, loading the bases for the Bulldogs. Kennedy Bunker was hit by the next pitch to plate the first run of the game.

The Bulldogs added another run in the next frame. Bella Rocco hit a leadoff double and Elias brought the run in with her second hit of the game.

San Diego cut Fresno State's lead in half in the third inning, plating one run on three hits.

The Bulldogs' offense exploded in the bottom of the, scoring four runs on five hits, making it a 6-1 game.

The Toreros plated a run in the top of the fifth off one hit and one error.

Fresno State took a 6-2 lead into the bottom of the fifth. The bats stayed hot for the Bulldogs as they scored four runs on four hits to win the game in run-rule fashion 10-2.

Senior right-handed pitcher Taylor Gilmore improves to 9-2 on the season.
