'Dogs conquer Lions, 8-5

FRESNO, Calif. – The Fresno State baseball team claimed its 10th win of the season with an 8-5 victory over the Columbia Lions on Saturday afternoon at Pete Beiden Field at Bob Bennett Stadium.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Lions scored quickly in the first inning with an RBI single. The Bulldogs earned their first runs in the bottom of the second inning after Bobby Blandford hit a double and was driven in by a wild pitch.

Justin Stransky doubled the Bulldogs' score in the bottom of the fourth with an RBI double that sent Ben Newton and Marco Pirruccello home.

The Lions hit a solo shot in the fifth but were quickly overshadowed by a five-run bottom half for the 'Dogs. Ben Newton singled and drove in a pair of runs and in the very next at-bat, Bobby Blandford went yard for the second time of the year to add two more. Rocco Peppi singled to left field to drive in Justin Stransky, run number five in the inning.

The Lions attempted to rally in the sixth with an RBI single and another home run but came up short. The Bulldogs defeated the Lions 8-5.
