'Dogs stumped by Anteaters

FRESNO, Calif. – The Fresno State baseball team fell to No. 19 UC Irvine, 13-4, on Thursday night at Pete Beiden Field at Bob Bennett Stadium.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Bulldogs and the Anteaters sat scoreless through the first three innings. The top of the fourth was a different story for the Anteaters as they scored eight runs on six hits to take a strong lead over the Bulldogs.

Fresno State scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the fourth inning with singles from Tommy Hopfe and Ben Newton.

The Diamond 'Dogs held the Anteaters to their six-run lead until the top of the seventh when UC Irvine added five more runs to the scoreboard with six hits.

Fresno State's final run from the night came from an RBI single in the bottom of the inning from Rocco Peppi, but the Bulldogs were not able to catch the Anteaters and fell 13-4 in the weekend opener.

NOTES

Logan Groff and Caleb Anderson both made their Bulldog debuts, each going hitless in one inning pitched.

With a single in the bottom of the seventh, Grady Morgan extends his hit streak even further as the only Bulldog with a hit in every game of 2024.

Zach Statzer went 2.1 innings in relief for the 'Dogs with only one hit and one walk drawn, as well as three strikeouts in the pitcher's longest outing this season.

Fresno State will rematch the Anteaters on Friday at 6:05 p.m. at Pete Beiden Field at Bob Bennett Stadium.
