FRESNO, Calif. – The Fresno State baseball team continues its eight-game home stand on Tuesday with a midweek matchup with the Pacific Tigers at Pete Beiden Field at Bob Bennett Stadium.
HOT START
The Bulldogs are starting 2024 on a hot streak with a 7-3 record through the first 10 games.
Fresno State has played in three series this season and has won them all, including a sweep over Milwaukee to start the year.
With a 7-3 record, this is the best start the Bulldogs have had since 2018 when they had a 9-1 record through the first 10 games.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
For the first time in his Fresno State career, Eddie Saldivar has been named Mountain West Player of the Week, the conference announced on Monday.
The Fresno native lived out his childhood dream of hitting a home run at Bob Bennett Stadium with a solo during Sunday's double-header walk-off win.
The second baseman went 4-8 combined in the Bulldogs' three games this week, with a double and three RBIs in addition to the six times he crossed the plate on his own, in addition to 8 total bases and four walks.
Saldivar also had a 1.000 slugging percentage and a .714 on-base percentage.
This weekend Saldivar was a brick wall at second base this week with several outstanding defensive plays over the Aztecs and is credited with 6 putouts and 4 assists for a 1.000 fielding percentage.
PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Sunday starter Jack Anker earned his team-leading third win of the season in the Bulldogs' 11-1 walk-off win over San Diego State.
The Tulare Western High School grad tied his career-best 7.0 innings pitched and eight strikeouts, both personal records he just set last weekend against the Cal State Fullerton Titans.
Anker held the Aztecs scoreless through 6 innings and gave up only one run in his fourth-ever Bulldog start.
In addition, Anker held the Aztecs to 4 hits and a .160 average against him and did not walk a single batter in his 7-inning long outing.
EYE OF THE TIGER
The Pacific Tigers have had a slow start to the season with a 2-8 record through the first 10 games.
Jack Metcho leads the Tigers at the plate with a .294 average, a .382 slugging percentage and a .409 on-base percentage.
The Tigers opened the season with a series against UNLV, winning the opening game and dropping the remaining two.
