FRESNO, Calif. – The Fresno State baseball team opened up Mountain West play with a statement 12-6 win over the San Diego State Aztecs through rainy weather at Pete Beiden Field at Bob Bennett Stadium on Friday night.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Bulldogs were the first on the board, with a sacrifice fly from Murf Gray scoring leadoff man Eddie Saldivar.
Fresno State had an electric second inning and added seven more runs to the scoreboard on five hits and an error. Rocco Peppi and Grady Morgan both contributed RBI doubles in addition to hits from Ben Newton, Tyler Davis and Murf Gray.
The Aztecs' first run came in the fifth inning as they doubled and then singled to score. Fresno State retaliated by scoring three runs off four hits, including an RBI double from Tommy Hopfe that scored all three runs.
San Diego State rallied in the eighth inning and tacked five runs to their score. Ben Newton brought in an insurance run for the Bulldogs in the eighth with a double to score Lee Trevino.
Aidan Cremarosa held the Aztecs scoreless in the final inning with back-to-back strikeouts to end the game at 12-6 in Fresno State's favor.
