'Dogs takedown Titans in 2-1 battle

FULLERTON, Calif. – The Fresno State baseball team took down the Titans of Cal State Fullerton

HOW IT HAPPENED

Reining Mountain West Pitcher of the Week Jack Anker set the tone for the defensive battle with a three-pitch strikeout against the lead-off Titan hitter. Anker held the Fullerton scoreless through four innings until the Titans knocked a double for their third hit of the game and a groundout would send the runner home.

Fresno State responded quickly in the top of the sixth with four walks to bring in a run to tie the game.

Tommy Hopfe singled up the middle in the top of the eighth to bring in the go-ahead run. Hopfe stepped in on the mound in the bottom of the ninth to end the game with a quick three-up, three down inning.

NOTES

Starting pitcher Jack Anker struck out a career-high 8 batters in a career-long 7.0 innings pitched, becoming the first 'Dog to earn two wins on the mound this season.

This is the first time the Bulldogs have won a series against the Cal State Fullerton Titans at Goodwin Field since 1988.

Tommy Hopfe hit the game-winning single and closed the game on the mound earning him his second save of the season.

UP NEXT

The Bulldogs will return to Pete Beiden Field at Bob Bennett Stadium this weekend to open conference play at home against San Diego State in a three-game series.
