'Dogs take down No. 9 Aggies in tiebreaker

FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno State equestrian team defeated No. 9 UC Davis in a raw score tiebreaker win on Saturday afternoon at the Student Horse Center. The teams tied 9-9, but the Bulldogs came out on top by a raw score of 1491.5-1400.

Fresno State had two Most Outstanding Performer honors on Saturday in Abby Goddard in the horsemanship and Taylor Holstead in the flat. Goddard earned her first career MOP while Holstead earned her third.

How it happened

UC Davis hopped out to an early 4-1 lead in the fences. Freshman Sage Lindvall earned the Bulldog point with a 78-0 ride against her opponent.

Across the arena, the Bulldogs' horsemanship group swept 4-0 with a tie by Ella Storch. The Bulldogs had high-scoring rides across the board with a 75.5 from Kendra Lee, a 75 from Emily Maul and a 78 from Alex Krebs. Goddard earned the MOP with a 76.5 in a re-ride against Gracie Howell.

Fresno State had a slight advantage heading into the break, 5-4.

The Bulldogs' western group remained steady, but UC Davis would take the win in the reining 3-2. Fresno State's points were earned by Shelby Robinette and Alana Becker. Robinette rode for a season-high 73. Becker scored a 71 in her win.

The teams tied 2-2 in the flat with a tie by Molly Stewart. UC Davis won the first point, but Sara Tuck secured the second of the event with a 79-74 showing. UC Davis nearly edged Elle Martin for the next point and Holstead rode for her MOP ride in a 76-68 defeat. The meet came down to the final ride, and after review, the score was deemed a 71 for UC Davis and a tie in the head-to-head to finalize the overall score at 9-9.
