Bulldogs remain second on leaderboard after Day 2

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - The Fresno State women's track and field team maintained its hold on second place on Friday at the 2024 Mountain West Indoor Track & Field Championships at the Albuquerque Convention Center. Led by bronze medals from Rachela Pace and Liz Tarczy, the Bulldogs hold 46 points with one day remaining.

Pace opened the day for the 'Dogs in the long jump. The junior recorded her best jump of the competition on her third attempt, landing in the pit at 6.29m/20-7.75, just shy of her personal best. It was the first medal of Pace's career.

Tarzcy closed Day 2 for Fresno State taking third in high jump. Being the only competitor of the final three to clear 1.74m/5-8.5 on their first attempt, the freshman had a leg up. She was unable to clear a new PR of 1.77m while the other two did. Kaitlynn Perez finished behind her teammate in fourth at 1.71m/5-7.25. It matched her personal best she set on Thursday in the pentathlon.

The Bulldog throwers added eight points to the team's total, going 5-6-8 in the shot put. Cierra Jackson landed her top throw of 18.97m/62-3 on her fifth attempt. Emma Harper was right behind her with a new PR of 18.59m/61-0, a toss on her fifth attempt that momentarily had her ahead of Jackson. Amelia DiPaola took eighth with a mark of 17.81m/58-5.

A day after winning the pentathlon, Madison Hutton advanced to Saturday's final in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.61. That time matched her PB she set in Thursday's pentathlon. In the sprints, Ceonna Pipion (third, 53.92) and Chloe Sharp (eighth, 55.25) each advanced in the 400 meters. Pipion also advanced in the 200 meters, clocking a time of 23.80, fifth-fastest in the prelims.

Track events start the final day for the women at 10:10 a.m. PT.
