‘Dogs take down Hornets, 6-2

FRESNO, Calif. – The Fresno State softball team closed its 11-game homestand with a 6-2 victory over Sacramento State, Wednesday afternoon at Margie Wright Diamond.

Fresno State (7-4) out-hit Sacramento State (6-5) in the contest, 7-6. The seven hits game off the bats of seven different Bulldogs. Three pitchers saw time in the circle for Fresno State. Taylor Gilmore went 5.2 innings with five strikeouts to record her fourth win of the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Gilmore set the tone for the Bulldogs in the circle, striking out three of the first five batters she faced.

Fresno State broke things open in the bottom of the third. A four-pitch walk to Emma Martinez started a string of three straight runners reaching base. Sophia Medellin pulled one through the left side of the infield out of the reach of the shortstop to bring in two.

Two more 'Dogs reached to reload the bases for Juliana Wilson. The senior laced a single to left field to bring in one. An error on the throw home brought in Medellin. With runners on second and third, Fresno State got back-to-back hits from Kennedy Bunker and Alyssa Ramirez to make it a six-run inning.

Sacramento State added a run in the fourth and fifth innings.
