FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno State equestrian team defeated Baylor 11-6 at the Student Horse Center on Friday morning. With the win, the Bulldogs earned their first Big 12 victory of the season and moved to 2-7 overall.
Fresno State earned two Most Outstanding Performer honors in Brogan Hill (reining) and Bridey Jones (fences). Both Bulldogs earned the MOP honor for the first time in their careers.
How it happened
The Bulldogs came out hot in the fences, taking the event 4-0 with a tie from Olivia Ferro. Jones opened up the scoring with a career-high 85 to her opponent's 79. Sage Lindvall outscored her opponent 78-71. Taylor Holstead earned her fences point with a 84-78 showing. Molly Stewart rounding out scoring with a 73 to her opponent's 67.
The horsemanship went the way of the Bears as they took a narrow 3-2 win in the event. Fresno State scored points by seniors Emily Maul and Alex Krebs who each scored a 76.5 in their rides.
At the break, the 'Dogs led 6-3.
Fresno State and Baylor tied in the flat, 2-2 with a tie by Sara Tuck. Bulldogs Elle Martin and Taylor Holstead won their points. Martin scored an 86 in her ride with Holstead recording an 83. In her tie, Tuck rode for an 87.
Fresno State had its best showing in the reining of the season, defeating Baylor 3-1 with a tie from Julianne Kelley with a score of 71. Two scores were held for review, with an additional re-ride granted. After the first review, Ashley Jackson scored a 71.5 to earn her point. The second video review score went the way of the Bears and Kelley rode for her tie point next. Hill scored her MOP ride with a 73 to her opponent's 68. After a re-ride for riders one and six, Hannah Hieber earned the point in a 67.5-67 edging.
