FRESNO, Calif.- Fresno State women's basketball team endured a tough loss at home falling to Wyoming at the Save Mart Center on Saturday afternoon, 69-47.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Wyoming took the lead in the opening five minutes holding a 13-7 lead through the first five minutes. Fresno State worked their way to keeping Wyoming to a single digit lead after recording their highest scoring period in the first (14). Fresno State held even through the next ten only being outscored by a single point in the second period, 12-11. Bineta Diatta was the first Bulldog on the board to start the second period followed by a shot from downtown by Mia Jacobs. A layup from Tamia Stricklin takes the 'Dogs down by ten going into the half.
It was a hard second-half start for the Bulldogs, as the Cowgirls held the 'Dogs scoreless through the first five minutes of the third. Bulldogs found their first points of the second half by Franka Wittenberg off a second-chance layup in the paint. In their largest run of the night Jacobs and Fox put up a set of layup. With that layup in the books, Jacobs recorded her 14th game in double-figures. Wyoming started and held a double-digit lead in the last quarter to close out the game with a twenty point lead.
The Fresno State bench pulled through aiding the team with 23 points lead by Deajanae Harvey (9), Franka Wittenberg, Bineta Diatta and Tamia Stricklin (4) and rounding out with Malaya LeSueur (2). For the second time in a row Fresno State has seen 20 or more points off the bench.
Wyoming was led by Barnes, Fertig and Pedersen in scoring. Barnes recorded four 3-pointers and Fertig recorded a double-double with 16 points and 12 rebounds. Wyoming moves into the next week of conference play on a 12-7 (7-1 MW) record.
