BRIDGEPORT, Penn. – The Fresno State water polo team received its highest Collegiate Water Polo Association ranking in program history on Wednesday, checking in at No. 5 in this week's national team rankings.
The Bulldogs jumped from No. 9 where they were listed at in the preseason rankings. Prior to Wednesday's announcement, Fresno State's highest-ever CWPA ranking was No. 7.
Fresno State is out to its best start to a season in program history, defeating four ranked teams in last weekend's Polo-Palooza to start 4-0. The 'Dogs took down then-No. 13 Michigan, then-No. 11 UC Davis, then-No. 1 Stanford and then-No. 18 San Jose State. It was the first time the Bulldogs defeated four ranked teams in consecutive meetings. The wins over Michigan and Stanford were the firsts for the Bulldogs in the series with the two teams.
The Bulldogs see their first road tests this weekend, traveling to Hawaii for the Hawaii Invitational. The 'Dogs will face Azusa Pacific on Friday at 6:30 p.m. PT, then No. 9 Princeton and No. 4 Hawaii on Saturday.
