'Dogs head to the Grand Canyon State for a set of weekend matchups

FRESNO, Calif.- Fresno State women's team opens the spring season heading to Arizona to face Arizona State and Grand Canyon University in a set of weekend match ups.

BULLDOG BONES

Fresno State will open the 2024 spring season against Arizona State followed by GCU in Arizona.

This weekends lineup will consist of 5 returners, Matilde Magrini, Yinglak Jittakoat, Carolina Piferi, Mariya Vyshkina and five newcomers this season Eliza Dunbar, Miskai Kobayashi, Charlotte Gliscon and Hannah Pieper.

Last season the 'Dogs finished 10-14

'Dogs also welcomed two mid-season transfers with Australian native Eliza Dunbar and Russian native Daria Nazarenko.

Fresno State sees a total of five new additions this season with Charlotte Gisclon (Michigan State), Misaki Kobayashi (University of Oregon), Hannah Pieper, Eliza Dunbar and Daria Nazarenko.

After this weekend Bulldogs will be on the road for the next three matches before the home opener against Fresno Pacific on February 9, 2024.

SCOUTING THE SUN DEVILS

The Sun Devils are 2-0, seeing wins against UC Davis (7-0) and UC San Diego (7-0)

Head Coach Sheila McInerney enters her 40th season at the helm for the Sun Devils

Arizona saw their 35th consecutive NCAA tournament appearance last season

Giulia Morlet was named Pac-12 Player of the Week this season for the Sun Devils

A top doubles-pair in Turkovic/Spaka will be back on the court after making an NCAA quarterfinals appearance last season

The Lopes are 3-1 going into Sunday's matchup

Head Coach Katarina Adamovic enters her second season leading the Lopes, Adamovic is the ninth head coach in GCU women's tennis history

GCU is coming off their first loss of the season against Arizona at home, 0-4

The Lopes have seen X players tabbed with WAC honors (N. Puehse, Singles, Jan. 16 ) (Puehse/Strombacha, Doubles, Jan. 16),

Last season GCU finished 15-10, 6-3 WAC and were the 2023 WAC Champions, their second WAC Tournament title in program history
