FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno State swim team is back on the road, this time taking the old country roads to West Virginia for the Almost Heaven LC Open in Morgantown, W. VA. Sat. Dec. 16-19, 2023.
'Dogs are back in another prelim finals meet for the Almost Heaven LC Open at Aquatic Center at Mylan Park. Fresno State will see a smaller competition on both sides of the pool, with only a few 'Dogs making the trip, Aliz Kalmar, Julia Matney and Mackenzie Hutler. The heats won't be much bigger with most events seeing only one heat of swimmers.
The Almost Heaven LC meet provides another opportunity to collegiate swimmers who were capped out of the US Open. This pre-Olympic year, in a mid-season window, is critical for many swimmers to achieve LC standards.
Aliz Kalmar will have another chance to hit a World Championship cut in both the 100 and 200 breast stroke.Kalmar is on the cusp of the qualifying A time standards for Doha World Championship in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:09.44 (A- 1:07.35).
Matney and Hutler will get their first long course meet of the season in, this weekend. Both swimmers aim to work towards a US Olympic trial cut in their respective events.
Preliminaries will begin at 10 a.m. MT/ 9 a.m. PT and Saturdays timed finals will begin at 5 p.m. MT. The meet will not be streamed live results can be found on Meet Mobile 'Almost Heaven'.
