'Dogs fall to the Mustangs in San Luis Obispo

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. - Fresno State women's basketball team would see a deafening loss against Cal Poly Saturday afternoon at the Mott Athletic Center, 84-59.

HOW IT HAPPENED

In a promising start for the team the 'Dogs would put up 24 points. Fresno State would then go on a 13-0 to take a 12 point lead mid-way through the first. With minutes left in the first the Mustangs would score eight unanswered points. 'Dogs would take a six point lead to close out the first 10 minutes of play. Keely Brown and Taija Sta. Maria would both record a three-pointer and put up seven points in the first quarter.

Bulldogs' would continue to hold the lead for seven minutes through the second. 'Dogs would take on a 5-0 scoring run started on a three-pointer by Mia Jacobs. A feat of 18 points for the Mustangs would see the Bulldogs' lead fall to a tied game with two minutes to play. Cal Poly would close on a 7-0 run and take the lead going into the half.

With a new half to play, Bulldogs' worked to stay within ten of the Mustangs to start the third quarter, courtesy of a three-pointer by Keely Brown. Mustangs would make the push for a double-digit lead late in the third with a three-pointer from McNicholas. From there the lead would belong to Cal Poly. Fresno State would record 23 points in the second half of play, shooting 55% (10-of-18) from the foul line, put up more points from turnovers (3) and second chance shots (6.)
