PHOENIX, Ariz.- Fresno State women's basketball team would see their toughest opponents to date, falling to Grand Canyon 55-36 on Friday afternoon in the opener of the GCU Classic in Phoenix.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Fresno State would get on the board first to open play against Grand Canyon, with a layup by junior Keely Brown. 'Dogs would see their next point of the period only a minute later, with a layup in the paint by Kylee Fox. Lopes would respond with a seven point scoring run to close out the first period, 14-4.
Bulldogs' best period of play came in the second after putting up 17 points. Maria Konstantinidou and Fox would open up play with three 3-pointers. Fox recorded two of the three, her second would bring the 'Dogs to trail by three with five minutes to play, 18-15. The final shot of the period, by Sydney Dethman would put the Bulldogs down by one to close the first half, 22-21.
Grand Canyon would extend their lead in the second half with two large scoring runs, 7-0 run in the third period and a 6-0 run in the fourth. 'Dogs would be able to put up another 15 points in the second half, scoring ten of those points off of nine turnovers.
Grand Canyon's top scorers were Trinity San Antonio (18), Tiarra Brown (10) and Anna Ostile with two 3-pointers. Grand Canyon would outscore Fresno State by 48% (22-48) from the field and 36% from the three going 4-of-11.
