'Dogs drop match on senior day

FRESNO, Calif. – The Fresno State volleyball team was defeated in four sets by Boise State on Senior Day in the Save Mart Center.

The Bulldogs now have a 16-13 record in Mountain West play and have earned a spot in the Mountain West Championship tournament in Las Vegas at the Cox Pavilion, beginning on Wednesday.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Fresno State had a slow start to the match as they trailed behind Boise State in the entirety of the first set. Jenna Legault led the team with 3 kills in the set out of 12 total for the Bulldogs, despite losing the set 25-19.

The Bulldogs struggled through the second set as the Broncos hit .455 to the Bulldogs' .176. Fresno State fell in the second set, 25-14, their largest deficit of the year.

Fresno State was not going down without fight and found new life in the third set after trailing for the first half. The Bulldogs tied the match at 22 with a kill from Ella Rud. Fresno State grabbed the lead and held on, winning the set 26-24.

The match came down to the final moments in the final set with the Bulldogs and Broncos tied at 23-23. A kill from the Broncos put them over the edge to win the set 25-23 and the match 3-1.

NOTES

The Bulldogs have clinched a spot in the Mountain West Championship tournament in the five seed, and are set to rematch the Broncos on Wednesday.

Senior Grace Doyle is three kills shy of 1,000 career kills.

Fresno State honored three seniors today; Grace Doyle, Molly Eppright and Hannah Waters.
