'Dogs suffer 3-1 loss to conference champion Aggies

FRESNO, Calif. – The Fresno State volleyball team fell to regular-season conference champion Aggies of Utah State in four sets at the Save Mart Center on Thursday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Bulldogs came out firing in the first set, led by Ella Rud and Jenna Legault with four kills each. The Bulldogs took a three-point lead that was quickly matched by Utah State before back-to-back kills from Jenna Legault ended the set in Fresno State's favor, 26-24.

Fresno State hit a peak in the second set by taking a 17-11 lead over the Aggies. Utah State quickly recovered with an 8-1 run to trigger a pair of Bulldog timeouts. Fresno State was not able to recover and the Aggies won the set 25-21.

The Aggies held a lead over the Bulldogs through the entirety of the third set, despite being outhit .242 to .222. Fresno State stayed close behind Utah State but was not able to keep up before the Aggies claimed a 25-22 win.

Fresno State scored the first point in the fourth set of the match with a kill from Jenna Legault, but the Aggies went on a 7-0 run to take a lead they would hold on to for the rest of the match. With a total of 56 kills on the night, the Bulldogs were not able to recover and took a 25-21 loss in set four and 3-1 overall.

NOTES

This was the Bulldogs' 14th match with 50+ kills this season with 56 on the night.

Brooke Cowie earned another double-double with 45 assists and 10 digs.

Ella Rud went up for a season-high 17 kills in addition to 16 digs to earn her another double-double this season.
