'Dogs host defending national champion SMU

FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno State equestrian team wraps up its fall season hosting No. 2 SMU on Friday morning at the Student Horse Center.

Admission and parking are free at the Student Horse Center.

Bulldog Bones

Fresno State is looking for its first win of the season. The 'Dogs are 0-5 on the year, and 0-3 in Big 12 competition.

With hosting the No. 2 team on Friday, Fresno State has now hosted the No. 1 and No. 2 team in the NCEA rankings this season and has competed against five Top 10 teams.

Fresno State has not been ranked in any NCEA weekly rankings so far this season.

Fresno State has won at least one MOP in each of the four events this season.

The Bulldogs have won the flat MOP in three of the five meets this season.

Although falling to No. 1 TCU on Oct. 20, the Bulldogs had eight riders set career-highs in the meet.

Western 'Dogs

Fresno State is 18-27-3 in its western events this season

Reining paces the western squad with 10 wins, horsemanship adds eight

Horsemanship has three ties on the year

The western group had their best performance of the year with a 6-2-2 finish at No. 8 Baylor on Nov. 2

Abby Goddard, Alex Krebs and Kendra Lee lead the horsemanship with two wins apiece

Krebs had the highest score by any Bulldog this season with a 78 at Baylor (Nov. 2). Krebs earned her first MOP with the ride.

Lee has the Bulldogs' other horsemanship MOP, earned with a 75.5 at South Dakota State on Oct. 7

Alana Becker and Shelby Robinette pace the reining group with three wins each.

Robinette and Julianne Kelley have Fresno State's two reining MOPs on the year.

Brogan Hill made her first appearance of the season in Fresno State's last road trip, and has since gone undefeated, entering the weekend with a 2-0 mark and a 71.5 under her belt to tie for the highest reining score by a Bulldog through five meets this season.

Jumping Seat 'Dogs

Fresno State is 16-31-1 in the jumping seat events this season

The events each have eight wins through five meets on the year

Fresno State has won three MOPs in the flat and one in the fences.

Sara Tuck (2) and Taylor Holstead earned the flat MOPs

Tuck is 4-1 with two MOPs in the flat. Her highest score of a 89 is the third-highest score by any Bulldog in the event this season.

Olivia Ferro is also 4-1, but in the fences. She has earned Fresno State's only fences MOP of the season.

Her MOP ride came by a score of 90, the highest by a Bulldog on the year.

Scouting the Mustangs

SMU was ranked No. 2 in the latest NCEA team rankings

The Mustangs are 3-1 on the season with all three wins coming in the last three meets against Oklahoma State, Texas A&M and Auburn – all ranked opponents.

SMU has defeated three Top 5 opponents this season

The Mustangs return seven All-Americans from the 2022-23 season

SMU is the defending NCEA National Champion team. The Mustangs finished the 2022-23 season with the best record in program history at 13-1, including a perfect 5-0 mark at home with a 9-1 record against ranked opponen
