'Dogs outbark Lobos, 3-1

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The Fresno State volleyball team is one game closer to clinching a spot in the Mountain West Championship tournament after defeating New Mexico, 3-1 on Thursday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Bulldogs and the Lobos stayed close throughout the first set, with the score remaining within a point until the Dogs pulled ahead with three straight points for a 19-16 lead. The Lobos battled back but a service error from New Mexico ended the set at 25-23 in favor of the Bulldogs.

Fresno State took the second set and ran with it early on, taking as high as a six-point lead with 11 total kills. A kill from Ella Rud secured the 25-22 set win for the Bulldogs.

The Lobos picked up momentum in the third set as they never fell behind the Bulldogs for the entirety of the set. With the kill count knotted at 12, the Lobos won the set 25-18.

The Bulldogs were ready to wrap up the night as they took a consistent five-point lead over the Lobos in the back half of the fourth set. Outkilling the Lobos 21-14, the Bulldogs claimed a 25-20 set win to defeat New Mexico 3-1 overall.

NOTES

With a season sweep over New Mexico, the Bulldogs have completed six season sweeps this season.

This is also the Bulldogs' seventh 3-1 victory in 2023.

Addison Haluska led the Bulldogs with 16 kills and a .351 hitting percentage, the best on either side of the net.

Brooke Cowie totaled 49 assists out of 56 total for Fresno State.
