STANFORD- Fresno State tennis program wrapped up the ITA Northwest Regional Championship on Sunday night.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The day started with the main draw open doubles round of 16. With three doubles pairs in the draw, Yinglak Jittakoat/Matilde Magrini, Carolina Piferi/Misaki Kobayashi and Charlotte Gisclon/Hannah Pieper
Kobayashi and Piferi put up a tough fight against the University of Oregon's Uxia Martinez-Moral and Sophie Luescher, the sixth seed. In which the pair won three games in the match. Gisclon and Pieper also faced a top-ten doubles seed in the round of 16, the pair faced the eight seed from the University of Washington (Olsen/Jacobs.)
The main draw open singles finished with Matilde Magrini, in the round of 32 against Cal's Mao Mushika [8]. Magrini battled hard in the first set forcing a tie-breaker game, the tiebreaker ended in Mushika's favor.
Eight Bulldogs competed in extra consolation matches; Yinglak Jittakoat, Matilde Magrini, Carolina Piferi, Hannah Pieper, Misaki Kobayashi, Charlotte Gisclon,Mariya Vyshkina and Gianna Mastro, played on Sunday evening. Fresno State went six-for-eight in the extra matches against a new slate of competitors. A Bulldog saw success in the extra matche against a top seeded player. Magrini defeated Washington State's Eva Sande Alvarez, the four-seed in doubles.
