'Dogs fall to No. 8 South Carolina in season opener

BROOKINGS, S.D. - The Fresno State equestrian team dropped its season opener 12-4 in a neutral site meeting with No. 8 South Carolina on Friday afternoon.

The Bulldogs saw two true freshmen in the season opening draw in Aubrey Gerdes (horsemanship) and Alana Becker (reining).

Friday's meet was carried by the Bulldog seniors as all point scorers for the 'Dogs were fifth year seniors in Alex Krebs, Sara Tuck and Julianne Kelley. Tuck won both her points in her jumping seat rides.

Tuck was the Most Outstanding Performer in the flat and Kelley earned the MOP in the reining.

How it happened

The meet began with horsemanship as Fresno State was outscored 3-1 in the event. Senior Alex Krebs earned the point for the Bulldogs with a 72.5-68 showing against her opponent.

South Carolina was initially ruled to have a sweep in the fences, but after a video review called back a Gamecock point, Fresno State tacked on another with a 66-0 score for senior Sara Tuck.

Fresno State earned one flat point, also by Tuck, with a 86-84 performance.

In the reining, Fresno State picked up its final point of the meet with a 71-69 ride by senior Julianne Kelley.
