SAN JOSE, Calif. – The Fresno State volleyball team was defeated by the San Jose State Spartans, 3-1 on Saturday afternoon in Spartan Gym.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Fresno State opened the first set neck and neck with the Spartans but held a consistent 1–3-point lead for a majority of the set. However, the Spartans gained momentum after tying the game at 23-23 and managed to surpass the Bulldogs and narrowly win the set 27-25.
The Bulldogs weren't rattled going into the second set as they quickly took a dominant lead over the Spartans. Led by Ella Rud with six kills, the Bulldogs owned their highest lead of the season when the score hit 20-6. Fresno State continued its offensive pattern and closed out the set, 25-12.
Grace Doyle led the charge for the last two sets of the match with a total of six kills and a block assist as San Jose State kept the third set close, winning 25-22, and the final set 25-16 for an overall 3-1 match score.
NOTES
Head Coach Leisa Rosen's first recruit in her time as a head coach, freshman Mya Sellers, made her collegiate debut on the court today.
Ella Rud totaled 14 kills, placing her at 139 kills this season, the third-highest on the team.
Fresno State had 16 total blocks on the evening for the second time this year. This is the second most blocks the Bulldogs have had in a match so far this season.
