RENO, Nev. – For nearly 75 minutes, a match that appeared destined to finish scoreless turned upside down and finished in a 1-1 draw on Thursday night at Mackay Stadium.
After going down in the 78th minute, the Bulldogs rallied in the 80th on a goal from the corner from Laura Mas, her first career goal for Fresno State. The 'Dogs continued to press in the final 10 minutes, attempting six of their 15 shots but the go-ahead did not come.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Outshot in the first 45 minutes, 7-5, but with Nevada only putting two on frame compared to Fresno State's one, the game remained tight through halftime, level at 0-0.
The match began to open up in the final 20 minutes. The 'Dogs began to push, attempting 10 shots in the final 16 minutes, the first from Megan Galvan which forced a save. Four minutes later, Trinity Sandridge broke the deadlock for the Wolf Pack, knocking in a cross before Vivas could intercept.
Back-to-back shots from Ciara Wilson led to the equalizer for the Bulldogs. In the 80th minute, Laura Mas set up from the corner. With her right foot, the sophomore whipped in a bending ball out of the reach of Ally Larkin that landed in the far netting.
Four shots came from the 'Dogs in the ensuing seven minutes, two which required saves and a third that was blocked. In the 89th minute, Wilson drew a penalty kick after being taken down just inside the box. Mas stepped up from the spot but her attempt to the left was stopped by Larkin.
