FRESNO, Calif. – After 90 minutes of physical, back-and-forth play, Fresno State and New Mexico were unable to be separate themselves, finishing in a 0-0 draw on Sunday afternoon at Bulldog Soccer Stadium.
Outshot 14-7, senior goalkeeper Valentina Vivas was up to the challenge. With four saves on the day, she recorded the second solo shutout of her career.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Despite two injuries in the opening five minutes, New Mexico came out on the upper hand, ripping off four shots and forcing a pair of saves out of Valentina Vivas in the first 21 minutes. Fresno State had its first big chance of the day in the 30th minute. Megan Galvan had a ball drop to her feet inside of 10 yards but the striker's shot with traffic around her sailed just over the crossbar.
The Lobos kept the pressure on in the first half, tacking on four more shots to hold an 8-3 advantage at the half but the Bulldogs' defense was up to the task to keep the score level at 0-0.
Still scoreless through 75 minutes, Kaelyn Miller and Megan Galvan each had attempts to break the deadlock but low shots looking for the corner were corralled by Lobo keeper Mariah Scott. The match ended 0-0 following a late strike from UNM's Nicole Anderson was stopped by Vivas, her fourth save of the afternoon.
