Fresno State earns first conference win in Rosen era

FRESNO, Calif. – The Fresno State volleyball team earned their first conference win at home this afternoon against New Mexico, 3-1.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Fresno State and New Mexico started the first set neck-and-neck, before Fresno State fell behind by as much as six points. The Bulldogs picked up the pace and went on a 7-1 run with four kills from Grace Doyle to win the opener 25-23. Fresno State fell into a slump at the start of the second set, but carried themselves back to the top with seven straight scores and won the set 26-24 due to a Lobo attack error. The Lobos responded with a solid third set, with 14 kills to Fresno State's 11, and won the set 25-21. The Lobos continued by opening the fourth set hot with a four straight, but the Bulldogs quickly tied the set back up 6-6 and never gave up he lead until winning the set 25-19 and the match 3-1.

NOTES

Grace Doyle racked up 18 kills, her second-highest total this season.

As a team, the Bulldogs totaled 60 kills for the third time in 2023.

Brooke Cowie was credited with 50 assists, narrowly missing a season high in the category.
