'Dogs sting Hornets, 3-0

STOCKTON, Calif. – The Fresno State volleyball team claimed its first sweep of the season, defeating the Sacramento State Hornets 3-0 on day two of the Central Cal Challenge.

The Bulldogs advance to 5-5 on the season with only one match remaining until the start of Mountain West play.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Bulldogs and Hornets started the first set neck and neck, staying within three points of each other until the 'Dogs hit a late surge to put them on top, 25-22. The slow burn started to head up for Fresno State in set two with a 7-0 run to start the set. The Bulldogs claimed their largest lead of the season by getting ahead 21-11, and eventually winning the set 25-15. The Hornets weren't going down with a fight in the third set with a late two-point lead. The Bulldogs took advantage of a Sac State time out to regroup and won the set 26-24.

NOTES

The Bulldogs won the opening set for the first time this season with a 25-22 victory over the Hornets.

Fresno State won set two by its largest margin all season at 25-15.

Jenna Legault and Addison Haluska tied for the lead in the kill category with 10 apiece, closely followed by Ella Rud with seven.

Kasey Purry led with a .492 hitting percentage and Grace Doyle claimed 10 total blocks on the day.

Fresno State will close out its run in the Central Cal Classic with a match against CSU Bakersfield tomorrow at 12 p.m. PT in Stockton, Calif.
