'Dogs fall to Tigers in Central Cal Challenge opener

STOCKTON, Calif. – The Fresno State volleyball team lost in straight sets to the Pacific Tigers in day one of the Central Cal Challenge in Stockton Calif. on Thursday evening.

The Bulldogs now carry a 4-5 record on the season with two matches left in non-conference play.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Fresno State started strong in the first set, going on a 7-0 run to give the Bulldogs an 18-11 lead over the Tigers. Pacific clawed their way through the deficit in set one and managed to defeat Fresno State 27-25. The Dogs and Tigers played a close knit second set, but Pacific came out on top 25-22. Fresno State seemed to lose momentum in the third set as they slipped into a 20-14 deficit, their largest of the match. The Bulldogs were not able to recover and dropped the set 25-21 and the match 3-0

NOTES

Sophomore Addison Haluska added 8 kills to her season total and now leads the Bulldogs by 138 in 2023.

Ella Rud led the Dogs in digs with 15 while also recording six kills.

The Bulldogs recorded 10 kills as a team with two solos from Grace Doyle, and assists from Kasey Purry and Addison Haluska.

Fresno State will return to the court in Stockton, Calif. for day two of the Central Cal Challenge against Sacramento State tomorrow at 3 p.m. PT.
