'Dogs have record-breaking day at Maui Jim Intercollegiate

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – Fresno State moved up to third on the leaderboard through 36 holes at the Maui Jim Intercollegiate, combining for a 17-under par 263 on Saturday afternoon at Mirabel Country Club. The 263 is a program one-round low score, surpassing the previous low of 266.

The Bulldogs' 32-under par sits only behind No. 6 Auburn (41-under) and San Diego State (39-under). Fresno State's 36-hole total of 536 is four shots better than the previous program low.

"What a day! The guys played incredibly," said head coach Chad Spencer. "I'm so proud of the work these guys are putting in and it's really paying off. Hope we can get off to a good start and make some noise near the lead."

Coming off a career-low 66 on Friday, Joseph Lloyd tied for the program's fourth-lowest one round total with a 64. Matthew Sutherland matched his teammate with a 7-under 64, tying his career-low round.

Sutherland knocked in eight birdies including one on each of the final four holes of his round. Lloyd had seven with five of those coming on the front nine.

After a 70 in Round 1, Matthew Manganello turned in a 4-under par 67. The senior sank four birdies with three on the front nine to go with an eagle on No. 2.

Following a 72 on Friday, Andrew Lee shot a 3-under 68 to round out the Bulldogs' scoring.

Paired with the Tigers and Aztecs, the Bulldogs will begin teeing off tomorrow's final round at 7:20 a.m. PT.
