'Dogs fall 2-1 at CBU

RIVERSIDE, Calif. - Leading 1-0 through an hour of play, Fresno State gave up two goals during the final 26 minutes to fall 2-1 at Cal Baptist on Sunday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Valentina Vivas was pressed into action twice just inside the opening 20 minutes, coming up with a pair of saves, one coming from a point-blank header.

The Bulldogs grabbed the match's opening goal in the 24th minute. Lizbeth De Loera slipped a ball into the box to Adriana Maldonado. The senior hit a centering pass in front of goal that Megan Galvan tapped in past Noa Schumacher.

Looking to head into the half with the lead, the Lancers had other ideas, pushing in the final minutes. The 'Dogs came up with a key block inside 12 yards in the 43rd and less than a minute saw a CBU attempt trick wide.

Coming out of the break, the Bulldogs faced a scary situation in the 49th as a Lancer attacker got open and ripped a shot from 10 yards out. Vivas got her hands up but the pull spun back toward the goal. Jordan Lau fortunately got back and cleared the ball off the line.

In the 54th minute, a through ball from CBU set up a goal but the Lancers were whistled for their sixth offside of the game to negate the equalizer. They did level the match in the 65th minute. A foul around 30 yards from goal set up Marcella Brooks. The Lancer struck a screamer that found the top, left corner.

With Fresno State hitting a flurry late, in the 83rd minute, Ciara Wilson took a turn and hit from inside 10 but her attempt was tipped up and over.

A minute later, CBU took their first lead of the day. A header that Vivas initially made a diving stop on was pounced on and poked across the line by Kaylee Hauck for the eventual winner.
