'Dogs wrap up summer ball and return to the Valley

FRESNO, Calif. – As summer ball comes to a close, the Diamond 'Dogs return to Fresno for the fall 2023 semester.

Fifteen Bulldogs spent their time away from campus playing on collegiate summer league teams in 2023.

Jack Anker, RHP, Mankato MoonDogs

Jack Anker saw action in four games with one start on the mound for the MoonDogs. He ended the summer with a 3.79 ERA and allowed 17 hits and eight walks in 19.0 innings pitched. Anker earned a 3-0 record while striking out 22 batters and only giving up eight runs.

Anker earned the first save of his summer ball career in six scoreless innings with seven strikeouts and only four hits against the St. Cloud Rox in his last appearance for the MoonDogs on June 4.

Bryce Armstrong, LHP, Springfield Drifters

Bryce Armstrong appeared on the mound in seven games with 12.1 innings pitched for the Springfield Drifters. He struck out 14 batters and ended the summer with a 5.10 ERA and a 1-2 record. Armstrong allowed only four walks with 16 hits and seven earned runs.

Armstrong pitched two scoreless innings, giving up only one hit and striking out two batters to claim his first win of the summer on June 22 against the Bend Elks.

Bobby Blandford, Outfield, Springfield Drifters

Bobby Blandford played in 34 games in the outfield for the Springfield Drifters and scored 15 runs with an additional 15 RBIs. He batted .277 on the season, leading the team with two triples and ranked second on the team with eight doubles. Blandford drew 23 walks and ended the summer with .785 OPS.Blandford went 4-for-5 in a series winner against Yakima Valley, hitting a double and bringing in one run in the 4-3 victory on July 22.

Tyler Davis, Catcher, Victoria HarbourCats

Tyler Davis spent 44 games behind the plate for the Victoria HarbourCats. In 177 at-bats, Davis accumulated 56 hits with six home runs to lead the team and three doubles. He drove in 43 RBIs and scored 37 runs to wrap up the summer with a .316 average and .809 OBS.

Davis went 4-for-5 with 3 RBI and an .899 OPS in a 6-4 win against Bellingham for the HarbourCats on June 30.

Michael McKernan, Outfield, Humboldt Crabs

In 14 games in the outfield for the Humboldt Crabs, Michael McKernan had 12 hits, a pair of doubles and a home run in 49 at-bats. McKernan also drove in 10 runs and scored 10 with a .245 average to end the summer.

McKernan added three RBIs and a double to his season total in a 13-0 win over the Humbolt Eagles on June 4.

Grady Morgan, Outfield, Orange County Riptide

Grady Morgan played in 25 games as the centerfielder for the OC Riptide in Summer '23. In 95 at-bats, Morgan racked up 20 hits with six doubles and eight RBIs. He scored 15 runs and ended the summer with a .211 average.

Morgan hit 2-for-4 against the Conejo Oaks with two doubles and two RBIs in a 6-4 win for the Riptide on July 9.

Ben Newton, Infield, Springfield Drifters

Ben Newton saw action in 32 games for the Springfield Drifters, with 37 hits, five doubles and a triple. Newton drove in 13 runs, scored 15 and concluded the summer with a .233 average.

Newton went 2-for-3 with one walk and run scored in a 7-1 victory for the Drifters over the Ridgefield Raptors on July 2.

Marco Pirruccello, Infield, Victoria HarbourCats

Marco Pirruccello played 38 games at first base for the Victoria HarbourCats and finished the summer with a .282 average and .739 OPS. In 131 at-bats, Pirruccello hat 37 hits, six doubles, one triple and 19 runs scored. He also drove in 14 RBIs and drew 21 walks.

Pirruccello batted 3-for-4 in an 8-4 win over Wenatchee with a double, RBI and run scored on July 14.

Jake Riding, RHP, Mankato MoonDogs

Jake Riding appeared in five games for the MoonDogs with 25.1 innings pitched. In that time, he struck out 17 batters with only 21 hits, 11 walks and six earned runs against him. He finished the summer with a 2.13 ERA and 1.26 WHIP.

Riding pitched six scoreless innings, giving up only three hits and two walks while striking out seven batters for his first win of the summer on June 21.

Jett Ruby, Utility, Western Nebraska Pioneers

Jett Ruby served as a utility man for the Western Nebraska Pioneers for 12 games over the summer. In 33 at-bats, Ruby accumulated nine hits, a double, and drew nine walks. He also was responsible for nine runs scored and nine RBI, ending the summer with a .273 average.

Ruby assisted the Pioneers in an 11-10 nail-biter win over the Australian Select Colts, going 2-for-4 at the plate with two runs scored and two RBIs on June 24.

Cameron Schneider, Infield/RHP, Western Nebraska Pioneers

Cameron Schneider made his summer ball debut as a two-way player for the Western Nebraska Pioneers. He spent 24 games as an infielder for the Pioneers, tallying 20 hits, a double, 18 RBIs and 15 runs scored in 81 at-bats. As a pitcher, Schneider made 4 appearances on the mound, earning himself a 2-0 record and 0.00 ERA.

Schneider pitched a scoreless inning after going 1-for-4 at the dish with an RBI against the Australian Select Colts in a 9-2 victory for the Pioneers on June 25.

Justin Stranski, Catcher, Ridgefield Raptors

Justin Stranski caught for the Ridgefield Raptors in 28 games in which he had 32 hits, eight doubles, a triple and a home run. He drove in 10 runs and scored 15 in 95 at-bats to end the summer with a .337 average, the highest on the Bulldogs.

Stranski drove in two runs and scored one after going 3-for-5 at the plate in an 8-5 win for the Raptors on June 17.

Nathan Baeza, RHP; Chase Knight, Infield; Cayden Munster, Infield, Utah Marshalls

Nathan Baeza, Chase Knight, and Cayden Munster spent the summer with the Utah Marshalls organization, a five-team league with 40 games over the summer in Salt Lake City, Utah.
