NORMAN, Okla. – The Golf Coaches Association of America announced the 2022-23 NCAA Division I GCAA All-America Scholars. Matthew Manganello and Matthew Sutherland made the list for Fresno State.
To be eligible for GCAA All-America Scholar nomination, an individual must be a sophomore, junior or senior both academically and athletically in NCAA Division I, II, III, and NAIA, or receiving their Associate's Degree and in their last year of athletic eligibility in the NJCAA. In addition, they must participate in 50% of their team's competitive rounds, have a stroke average under 76.0 in NCAA Division I, under 78.0 in NCAA Division II, under 79.0 in NCAA Division III, under 78.0 in NAIA, and under 77.0 in NJCAA, and maintain a minimum cumulative career grade-point average of 3.2. A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at their college or university.
Manganello, an All-Mountain West selection, competed in 11 tournaments with a 70.59 scoring average in 32 rounds. He competed at NCAA Morgan Hill regional and finished the season ranked No. 144 in GolfStat rankings. The Las Vegas native placed sixth at the Mountain West Championships, tying his season low with a 13-under par 203. Manganello is majoring in business administration.
Sutherland, another All-Mountain West selection, competed in all 11 tournaments with a team-low 70.56 scoring average. He competed at the NCAA Morgan Hill regional, finishing the season No. 98 in GolfStat rankings. The Sacramento, Calif. posted five Top-10 finishes, while recording a team-best four Top-5 finishes. Sutherland is majoring in history.
