FRESNO, Calif. – On Sunday afternoon, Fresno State's Cierra Jackson is set to make her second consecutive appearance at the USATF Outdoor Championships at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore. The championships' women's discus competition will begin at 4 p.m. PT.
Jackson is one of nine athletes in the field who return from the 2022 championships. The Bulldog finished 10th in her first appearance, missing qualification for the finals by just over two feet. She is one of seven who finished in last year's Top 10. Five of 2022's Top 6 finishers will compete on Sunday.
While possessing the fifth-ranked throw in the NCAA in 2023, she will be the third-highest ranking collegian in this week's event. Of the 11 collegians in the field, each ranked in the Top 16 this season.
Jackson was one of five collegians this year to land a mark beyond 60 meters when she recorded a throw of 60.77 meters at the Aztec Invitational in March. She enters Sunday with the eighth-best mark in the field. Four of those athletes ahead of her are post-collegian professionals.
