Slugfest at The Pete ends in 11-4 victory

FRESNO, Calif. – The Fresno State baseball team homered their way to an 11-4 victory over the UNLV Rebels on Friday at Pete Beiden Field at Bob Bennett Stadium.

With the win, the Diamond 'Dogs hold on to their spot in fourth place in the Mountain West standings as they advance to 25-24 (14-14 MW) and the Rebels fall to 19-27 (10-15 MW).

NOTES:

Nearly a year ago to the day, Fresno State hit four home runs against UNLV at home in an 8-7 victory over the Rebels on May 14, 2022, at Pete Beiden Field at Bob Bennett Stadium. The 'Diamond 'Dogs combined for a season-high of five home runs in the opening game against the Rebels.

The last time Fresno State hit home runs in four consecutive innings was on April 12, 2022, when the 'Dogs hit a program-record eight home runs against Sacramento State.

Starting pitcher Ixan Henderson collected his fourth win of the season with a career-high 7.2 innings pitched and season-high 10 strikeouts.

Nikoh Mitchell crushed his fifth and sixth home runs of the season, the first back-to-back home runs of his career, and went four-for-five at the plate.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Nikoh Mitchell went deep into left field to open scoring for the Diamond 'Dogs on Friday.

UNLV scored two in the top of the second on an RBI single from Jason Sharman, but the Bulldogs fired back with a four-run inning with home runs from Tyler Davis and Nikoh Mitchell.

Grady Morgan hit a bomb over the right field wall to bring home Ben Newton in the third and Marco Pirruccellofollowed up with a two-run homer to plate Tommy Hopfe in the fourth.

Tommy Hopfe hit a single in the bottom of the seventh inning to put a stamp on the 11-4 victory for Fresno State.
