SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. – The Fresno State baseball team fell 11-2 to the dominant Cal Poly Mustang offense on Tuesday night at Baggett Stadium in San Luis Obispo, Calif.
The Diamond 'Dogs are now 24-24 on the season while Cal Poly is 16-30 with the win.
NOTES:
Grady Morgan went 2-4 on the night with a single and his 10th double of the year.
Will Springer pitched two shutout innings and only allowed one hit.
Travis Welker led the team with six assists and two putouts.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Mustangs lit up the scoreboard with an explosive third inning by scoring eight runs on 10 hits. They added another run to their total with a solo home run in the fourth.
The Diamond 'Dogs found themselves on the board for the first time in the top of the eighth as Travis Welker led off the inning with a double and was brought home by a single from Grady Morgan. Singles from Michael McKernan and Murf Gray led to the 'Dogs scoring again to make it a 9-2 game.
Cal Poly tacked on two more runs in the bottom of the eighth with three hits. The 'Dogs tried to bite back with another run scored in the top of the ninth, but they were not able to come back against the Mustang offense.
