Season on the line on Saturday

FRESNO, Calif. – The Fresno State softball team lost 3-0 to the Boise State Broncos on Friday night at Margie Wright Diamond.

Fresno State (22-30, 9-12 Mountain West) couldn't overcome a tough night offensively while Boise State (31-14, 16-4 MW) clinched the outright 2023 Mountain West regular season championship and the No. 1 seed for next week's MW Championship in San Diego.

The Bulldogs are still in contention for one of the final two spots in the conference tournament and can secure one with a win on Saturday over the Broncos or get some help from other Saturday results.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Boise State's Lindsey Walljasper pitched a complete game one-hit shutout while leading the Broncos to their second-ever conference title and first since 2018.

The Bulldogs' lone hit came from shortstop Alesia Denby in the fourth inning.

Boise State scored in the third, sixth and seventh before closing out the victory and securing the championship.

NOTES

Fresno State is now 28-14 all-time against Boise State and 20-4 when playing the Broncos in Fresno.

This was just the fourth time this season that Fresno State has been shut out in a game.

Fresno State will need to either win its series finale over Boise State on Saturday (which starts at 11 a.m. PT) or put its fate in the hands of other results from around the conference to secure one of the final two spots in the 2023 MW Championships.
