'Dogs lose in nailbiter to Lobos

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The Fresno State baseball team fell 6-5 in a tight contest against New Mexico at Santa Ana Star Field.

After the three-game losing streak, the 'Dogs fall to 21-22 on the season (11-13 Mountain West) and the Lobos advance to 22-17 (10-10 MW).

NOTES:

Starting pitcher Trevor Garcia pitched a career-high seven innings with four strikeouts and one walk.

Nikoh Mitchell went 2 for 4 with two RBIs and two runs scored.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Tommy Hopfe doubled down the left field line in the top of the first to bring in the first run for the 'Dogs.

The Lobos hit two home runs in the bottom of the second to make it a 3-1 game.

Nikoh Mitchell led off the third inning with a double and eventually scored to tack on another run for the 'Dogs.

Fresno State added two more runs to take the lead in the top of the ninth with an RBI single from Nikoh Mitchell. The Lobos tied the game with an RBI double to left field in the bottom of the inning.

In extras, the 'Dogs had two hits, but were not able to plate any runs. The Lobos snatched the 6-5 victory in the 10th with an RBI single.

UP NEXT: The Bulldogs are back at home on Tuesday to face Sacramento State at Pete Beiden Field at Bob Bennett Stadium at 6:05 p.m. PT.
