FRESNO, Calif. – The Fresno State softball team defeated the Nevada Wolf Pack 5-1 on Sunday at Margie Wright Diamond.
With the win, Fresno State (20-24, 9-7 Mountain West) remained in sole possession of third place in the Mountain West standings and completed a three-game sweep of Nevada (26-14, 7-9 MW).
HOW IT HAPPENED
Fresno State scored all five of its runs in the bottom of the first as Emma Martinez singled to start the frame and came around to score on Keahilele Mattson's RBI grounder.
Vanessa M. Hernandez plated the next two runs with a single through the right side.
Kennedy Bunker then drove in the fourth run and Taryn Irigoyen delivered a sacrifice fly, which allowed Hernandez to cross home plate and gave Fresno State an early 5-0 lead on Nevada.
The Wolf Pack's lone run came in the third inning.
Fresno State's Shelbi Denman and Serayah Neiss combined to pitch a gem in the circle for the Bulldogs, with Denman securing her seventh victory of the season and Neiss throwing another scoreless outing.
NOTES
Fresno State's Emma Martinez extended her hitting streak to eight straight games and owns a .413 batting average in home games this season.
Fresno State's Vanessa M. Hernandez went 2-for-3 at the plate with two RBIs and scored a run.
Fresno State's Juliana Wilson and Alesia Denby each walked twice in the 5-1 victory over Nevada on Sunday.
Fresno State improved to 19-9 this season when scoring three or more runs in a game.
