STOCKTON, Calif. – The Fresno State baseball team completed a season sweep over the Pacific Tigers after an 8-7 victory on Tuesday at Klein Family Field.
The 'Dogs now advance to 18-17 on the season while the Tigers fall to 10-24.
NOTES:
Reigning four-time Freshman of the Week Murf Gray went 2-for-5 with a three-run bomb in the fifth inning, his fifth of the season.
Relief pitcher Zach Statzer earned his second win of the season after pitching for 2.2 innings with only one hit against him.
Robbie Peters earned his first save of 2023.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Tigers opened the scoring early with four runs on four hits in the bottom of the first.
Fresno State answered with a run scored in the top of the second due to an RBI single from Marco Pirruccello.
Pacific extended their lead to 6-1 in the bottom of the third. The 'Dogs fired back in the top of the fifth after Murf Gray rocked a three-run homer to left field. Ben Newton doubled down the line and Matt Gonsalves reached on fielder's choice to give Fresno State a 7-6 lead.
The Tigers tied the game back up in the bottom of the sixth after a throwing error and single allowed a run to score.
Another run wouldn't score until the top of the 10th inning when Tyler Davis singled to dish pinch runner Blake Wink.
Pacific did not bounce back in the bottom of the inning and the Bulldogs took the 8-7 win.
