'Dogs to rematch Tigers in Stockton

STOCKTON, Calif. -- The Fresno State baseball team is headed to Stockton, Calif. for a rematch against the Pacific Tigers Tuesday evening at 6 p.m. PT at Klein Family Field. The Bulldogs defeated the Pacific Tigers 5-4 at Pete Bieden Field at Bob Bennett Stadium earlier this season.

Fresno State is coming off its sixth series win of the season after defeating the San Diego State Aztecs twice over the weekend.

TOMMY HOPFE -- TOM OF ALL TRADES

Junior Tommy Hopfe has started 30 games this season with the 'Dogs.

Hopfe has served as the DH, first baseman, catcher, and pitcher so far this season.

On the mound, Hopfe has earned seven saves, making him first in the Mountain West and 13th in the nation.

In the field, Hopfe has a perfect fielding percentage with 84 putouts and eight assists.

At the plate, Hopfe is a clutch hitter, leading the team with five home runs this season, two of those being against conference leader San Diego State this past weekend.

TRAVIS WELKER – SKILLS SHOW

Senior Travis Welker is the only Diamond 'Dog to be in the starting lineup for all 34 games so far in 2023.

He currently owns a .267 average and sits at 8th toughest to strikeout in the nation with only six strikeouts over 105 at-bats.

He is also fifth in the nation in sacrifice bunts with nine on the season.

Defensively, Welker has spent the whole season at shortstop and is known for his highlight reel-level reflexes and quick plays. He owns a .974 fielding percentage and is responsible for 62 putouts and 88 assists in 2023.

ROMAN ANGELO – MOUNTAIN WEST PITCHER OF THE WEEK

Senior Roman Angelo has earned his second Mountain West Weekly Honor this season after being named MW Pitcher of the Week.

Angelo spent a career-high eight innings on the mound as the Saturday starter for the 'Dogs, stepping up to fill the shoes of injured Saturday starter Jake Dixon, and shutout conference leader San Diego State through eight innings.

Last week he owned a 0.00 ERA with only three hits and two walks allowed. Angelo also earned five strikeouts this week and held opponents to a .120 average.

MURF GRAY – MOUNTAIN WEST FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK

Murf Gray has received his fourth consecutive MW Freshman of the Week honor this season after finding a regular spot in the Bulldogs' starting lineup at third base. He is only the second MW baseball player to earn a weekly honor four weeks in a row.

He owned a .250 average and .688 slugging percentage last week and crushed home runs in back-to-back games against conference leader SDSU.

Gray scored four runs and had five RBIs, and currently leads the 'Dogs at the plate with a .297 average.

Gray had several impressive defensive plays this week and earned eight put-outs and seven assists.

A LOOK AT THE TIGERS:

The Tigers are riding a six-game skid and were swept by Saint Mary's last weekend.

UOP owns a 10-23 overall record this season, and is 4-10 at home.

In the Bulldogs' home matchup with the Tigers earlier this season, Fresno State won 5-4.
