Fresno State splits weekend series at Utah State

LOGAN, Utah – The Fresno State softball team lost 8-2 to the Utah State Aggies on Sunday afternoon at Johnson Field.

Fresno State (17-24, 6-7 Mountain West) produced 20 base runners in the game, which split the weekend series at Utah State (14-19, 6-7 MW) as the 'Dogs won 10-9 in nine innings in the series opener on Saturday.

Emma Martinez and Abby Doughty each had two of the Bulldogs' eight hits in Sunday's series finale with the Aggies.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Fresno State struck first with two runs in the first inning when third baseman Bella Rocco connected for a two-run single to score Emma Martinez and Juliana Wilson.

The Aggies answered with two runs in the bottom half of the first frame and added two more runs in the third. But it was USU's four runs in the sixth inning that provided the extra separation late in the game.

Keahilele Mattson and Alyssa Rebolledo each had doubles on Sunday and the Bulldogs combined to draw 10 walks, which was the second time this season that Fresno State has walked at least 10 times in a game
