FRESNO, Calif. – The Fresno State softball team defeated the New Mexico Lobos 4-1 on Sunday at Margie Wright Diamond.
Taylor Gilmore tossed her second complete game of the weekend to finish off the series sweep for Fresno State (15-19, 4-2 Mountain West), who have climbed into second place in the conference standings and currently sport a four-game winning streak.
In the three-game series, Fresno State limited New Mexico (16-21, 3-6 MW) to just two runs total after the Lobos had averaged nearly 10 runs per game in their five contests before visiting the Central Valley.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Game 3 – Fresno State 4, New Mexico 1
A four-run third provided Fresno State all the offense it needed to complete the sweep of UNM.
After Bella Rocco walked to lead off the frame and Emma Martinez singled later in the inning, Juliana Wilson delivered a RBI single to get the scoring started. Alesia Denby added a two-run double to keep the momentum rolling and Jamie Hicks drove in the fourth run on a hard hit ball in the infield.
Gilmore (7-4, 2-1 MW) continued to shine and struck out five Lobo batters and allowed just the single run in the sixth en route to the 4-1 triumph, which lifted Fresno State to 9-5 at home this season.
NOTES
At the plate, Fresno State's Juliana Wilson went 2-for-3 with a RBI and run scored while Alesia Denby connected on her team-leading seventh double of 2023.
With the win, Fresno State improved to 55-9 all-time against New Mexico entering Sunday's series finale.
This was Fresno State's third straight (fourth overall this season) complete game by a pitcher, as Gilmore had a complete game 3-1 victory in Friday's series opener and Denman earned one in the Bulldogs' 1-0 win on Saturday.
