'Dogs cruise in women's throws to open West Coast Relays

FRESNO, Calif. – The West Coast Relays opened on Thursday at Warmerdam Field with Fresno State finishing 2-3-4 in the women's hammer and 2-3-4-5 in the women's javelin. The top spots in each event went to former Bulldogs Tahj'nee Thurston (hammer) and Vanja Spaic (javelin).

Senior Amelia DiPaola was back over the 200-foot mark, landing a toss of 61.29m/201-1 to be the top collegiate finisher. Jocelynn Budwig was third at 53.72m/176-3. In her first meet throwing the hammer, Cierra Jackson placed fourth. The sophomore crossed 50 meters on her fifth attempt, landing a mark of 51.02m/167-4.

Landing a personal best on her opening attempt, Cerah Moren was the top collegiate finisher in the women's javelin at 49.91m/163-9. Harriette Mortlock was second with her top mark of the event, 48/85m/160-3 coming on her first attempt. Like her two teammates ahead of her, Chloe Wood also landed her best mark of the day on her opening attempt, doing so with a personal best of 46.92m/153-11. Rhiannon Genilla was fifth at 42.61m/139-9.

The Bulldog men picked up eighth-place finishes in both events. Cameron Haynes had a toss of 53.07m/174-1 in the hammer while Isaiah Calvin landed a mark of 53.20m/174-6 in the javelin.

The meet will move to Veterans Memorial Stadium in Clovis, Calif. on Friday. Events begin at 10 a.m. PT with the women's long jump and the women's 5,000 meters.
