Bulldog Headlines

The Bulldogs wrap up their eight-game homestand this weekend hosting New Mexico in a three-game series on Friday through Sunday.

The Bulldogs are 7-3 at home this season.

Fresno State went 3-3 against New Mexico in 2022 winning two of three in Fresno and earned one win in Albuquerque.

The 'Dogs lead the MW and rank 28th nationally in ERA (3.65) and are also second in the MW and 22nd nationally in walks per nine innings (3.25).

Senior right-hander Roman Angelo was named the Mountain West Pitcher of the Week on Monday after tossing 7.2 shutout innings last week striking out 10 allowing four hits.

Angelo leads the MW in ERA (2.04), earned runs allowed (4) and is third in opposing batting average (.194).

Senior Nikoh Mitchell leads the team with a .268 average and has a pair of home runs.

A look at the New Mexico Lobos

New Mexico is 11-5 on the season coming off an 11-8 loss at Grand Canyon on Tuesday and is off to a 2-1 start to Mountain West play taking two of three over Air Force at home last weekend.

The Lobos lead the MW and nation in batting average hitting .362 as a team with seven different players hitting over .300 with all seven starting all 16 games for UNM.

New Mexico ranks second nationally in scoring averaging 11.3 runs per game and is third nationally in hits with 221.

The Lobos went 21-33 in 2022 with a 10-20 mark in the MW to finish in a tie for sixth with San Diego State.

Senior infielder Dylan Ditzenberger leads the MW and ranks 13th nationally in batting average (.477). He also tops the league in on-base percentage (.533), runs scored (28) and hits (31).

On the pitching side, the Lobos have a 5.35 ERA, fifth in the MW, while opponents are hitting .280 and ranks second in the MW in strikeout-to-walk ratio (2.47).

The starting rotation of Riley Egloff, Tristin Lively & Isaac Gallegos is a combined 9-1 on the season and has combined for 61 strikeouts in 66.1 innings of work.

Brian McBroom has made a team-leading seven appearances converting a pair of saves and has struck out 10 in 13.0 innings of work.

Angelo named Mountain West Pitcher of the Week

Making a pair of starts on the week, Roman Angelo tossed 7.2 innings, struck out 10 and held opponents to a .160 average on the week.

He tossed a pair of scoreless innings against Pacific on Tuesday allowing one hit and struck out three.

Helping the 'Dogs clinch the series win over Nevada on Sunday, Angelo added 5.2 shutout innings limiting the Wolf Pack to three singles and matched his Bulldog career high with seven strikeouts.

Angelo currently ranks second in the MW in ERA (2.04), tied for second in runs allowed (5) and is fourth in opposing batting average (.194).

'Dogs off to hot start at home

The Bulldogs are off to a 7-3 start at home for their best home start since 2018 when they got off to a 10-0 start in Fresno.

Anker tosses big week on the mound

Freshman right-hander Jack Anker had a big week on the mound for the 'Dogs earning a win over Pacific on Tuesday and a save in a game one victory over Nevada on Saturday.

In five innings of work, the Tulare native allowed one hit and struck out three.

Mitchell excelling at the dish

Starting 10 of the 'Dogs 14 games in center field, senior Nikoh Mitchell is hitting .268 from the plate with 11 of his four hits going for extra bases and has driven in a team-leading eight RBI.

On the pitching side, he has made a pair of appearances striking out five in three innings of work and has limited opponents to a one hit and a .111 batting average.
