Fresno State loses 4-2 to Maine

FRESNO, Calif. – The Fresno State softball team lost 4-2 to the Maine Black Bears on Sunday night at Margie Wright Diamond.

Fresno State (7-13) recorded eight hits against Maine (5-12), including a 3-for-4 performance at the plate by Keahilele Mattson and a solo home run off the bat of Abby Doughty.

The Bulldogs and Black Bears will attempt to play one final game to wrap up the tournament on Monday at 4 p.m. PT after a potential second game on Sunday was postponed due to impending weather conditions.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Maine scored the first four runs of the game with two in second and two more in the fifth, which gave the Black Bears a 4-0 lead midway through the fifth frame.

Doughty homered in the bottom of the fifth to put the Bulldogs on the board and Keira Carrillo scored a wild pitch in the sixth to cut the deficit in half.

Taylor Gilmore tossed 2.1 innings of scoreless relief with four strikeouts in the circle for Fresno State.
