PALM DESERT, Calif. – Carding three straight rounds under par, Matthew Manganello won his second tournament of the season, finishing this week's Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate with an 8-under par 208 at the Classic Club. He is the first Bulldog to win multiple tournaments in the same season since Nick Watney in 2002.
Tied heading into the final round, Manganello moved back into the sole possession of first following a pair of bogeys from Harry Doig in the first five holes while the Bulldog added a birdie to his score. A bogey on eight, and a birdie on nine from Colorado's Dylan McDermott, who was 3-under on the front nine, Manganello's lead shrunk to two. The junior went 2-under on the back nine to close out the win.
The other four Bulldogs each moved up on the final day. Also shooting 2-under in the final round was Matthew Sutherland. The junior finished ninth at 2-under par. Joseph Lloyd, Jake Aberle and Jake Bettencourt each shot even par on day three. Lloyd finished the tournament tied for 15th at 1-over par.
