'Dogs lead after one at Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate

PALM DESERT, Calif. – Through 18 holes at the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate, Fresno State holds a three-stroke lead, combining for a 2-under par 268 on Wednesday at the Classic Club. The Bulldogs' top four players are currently inside the Top 20 in the field of 91.

No. 47 Colorado is in second at 1-over with Wyoming and Utah tied for third at 2-over. Sacramento State is in fifth at 3-over.

The Bulldogs' top three got the team off to a quick start as Joseph Lloyd, Matthew Manganello and Matthew Sutherland knocked in nine birdies and were 6-under through their first nine holes. Lloyd added a pair of birdies on the back nine and finished his day at 3-under. The sophomore is tied for second, two shots back of Sacramento State's Riley Bell.

Manganello played a steady round of 71 to put himself in a tie for sixth at 1-under par. Playing 3-under on the front nine, Sutherland found five of his six bogeys on the back nine before finishing the day tied for 19th with a 73.

With three birdies in his last four holes, freshman Jake Aberle moved up into the Top 20 where he is tied with Sutherland at 1-over par.

Round 2 will begin tomorrow at 7 a.m. PT.
