FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno State men's basketball team lost 59-53 to the Sacramento State Hornets on Saturday afternoon at the Save Mart Center.
Fresno State (3-7) was led by Jordan Campbell with 13 points on 6-of-11 shooting from the field, while Isaiah Hill chipped in 11 points for the Bulldogs.
Donavan Yap added eight points off the bench while also pitching in four rebounds, three assists and a steal in 27 minutes of action against Sacramento State (6-5), who won its third-straight game.
How It Happened
The 'Dogs got off to a quick 9-5 start after a slam dunk by Jordan Campbell and extended their early lead to 17-9 after a jumper by Campbell with 9:45 to play in the first half.
A 9-0 run by the Hornets gave Sacramento State its first lead of the contest, 18-17, but a three-pointer by Anthony Holland put the 'Dogs back up a pair. The Hornets responded with a 6-0 run for a 24-20 lead with the 'Dogs scoring the final three points of the first 20 minutes with a dunk by Eduardo Andre and free throw by Holland.
The Bulldogs dominated the start of the second half, opening up on an 11-0 run to take a 34-24 lead, but the Hornets answered back with a 9-0 run of their own to trim Fresno State's lead to one at 34-33.
A three-pointer by Holland put the Bulldogs up 42-37 and the 'Dogs maintained a four-point lead, 44-40 after a layup by Yap with 8:05 to play in the second half.
A jumper by Yap gave the 'Dogs their final lead of the contest at 48-47 as the Hornets went on an 8-0 run for a 55-48 lead with 1:30 to play. The Bulldogs were only able to get within four down the stretch.

Fresno State is now 40-10 (overall) in its all-time series with Sacramento State.
This was the first meeting between the programs separated by 177.3 miles since Nov. 14, 2008 (Paul George's first game as a Bulldog).
Fresno State has now limited 21 of its last 22 opponents in regular season games to fewer than 70 points.
This was the third time this season Fresno State's defense has limited its opponent to fewer than 60 points.
Fresno State is now 42-10 in head coach Justin Hutson's tenure when making 45 percent of its field goal attempts.
