Judge named AL Most Valuable Player

NEW YORK - Former Diamond 'Dog and current New York Yankees slugger Aaron Judge was named the 2022 American League Most Valuable Player on Thursday evening.

Putting together a historic season from the plate, Judge set a new AL single season home run record with 62 to lead the MLB and added 131 RBI (1st in AL) while hitting .311 (2nd in AL) while also leading the AL in OPS (1.111) and fWAR (11.4).

In addition, Judge led the MLB in runs scored (133), total bases (391), on-base percentage (.425) and slugging percentage (.686).

Judge garnered 28 first-place votes and 410 points edging out Los Angeles Angels' Shohei Ohtani and became the first Yankees outfielder to win the award since Mickey Mantle in 1962.

Judge joins Terry Pendleton as the only two former Bulldogs to earn MVP honors after Pendleton earned the NL MVP with the Atlanta Braves in 1991.
